How to Maintain a Ceramic Coating (Do's and Don'ts)

Keep the product and handover instructions

Record what was installed on paint, glass, wheels and any film. Ask when the car may get wet and when washing is permitted. Cure intervals and maintenance obligations are product-specific; a generic timetable may not fit your coating.

Wash and dry without transferring grit

Work on cool surfaces with the permitted shampoo dilution. Remove loose contamination before contact, use clean wash media, keep wheel tools separate and rinse before cleaner dries. Dry using clean appropriate tools and light pressure rather than scrubbing missed dirt with the drying towel.

Treat the contamination you actually have

Iron, tar, road film and mineral deposits require different responses. Follow the coating maker’s guidance and reassess after appropriate treatment. Mechanical clay can mar paint and affect protection; it is not a routine diagnostic test for an existing coating.

Use toppers conditionally

A compatible topper may be part of the chosen care system. It adds its own surface behavior and does not prove a worn base coating has been repaired. Clean and inspect first, then follow product directions instead of repeatedly adding sprays whenever beading changes.

Know when to request an inspection

Uneven cured residue, persistent staining and other unresolved changes deserve an assessment. Polishing can affect existing protection, so agree on the remedy and any reapplication before work starts. Keep records to make future maintenance decisions easier.
