The 2026 Car Detailing Report
We analyzed 26,876 car detailers across 52 states and 6,265 cities — their reviews, ratings, competition, websites and services. The picture that emerges: in detailing, visibility wins, not quality. Here's the data.
Reviews are wildly concentrated — and that decides who wins
Half of all detailers have 16 reviews or fewer. But the top-ranked detailer in a typical city carries 369 — roughly 23× the median. Since reviews are the #1 factor Google uses to rank the local map, that gap is the single biggest reason some shops stay booked and others stay invisible.
Average review gap between the #1 detailer and the median in a city: 343 reviews.
Ratings don't set anyone apart — everyone's a 5-star shop
90% of detailers rate 4.5★ or higher, and 66% sit at a perfect 5.0. When almost everyone is excellent, the star rating stops being a differentiator — customers and Google both fall back on how many reviews you have and whether they can find you at all.
It's crowded out there — 108 competitors within 15 miles
The average detailer has about 108 other detailers within 15 miles. In the most saturated metros there are far more — which is exactly why the few shops that master local visibility take the lion's share of the calls.
| Most saturated markets | Detailers |
|---|---|
| Miami, Florida | 102 |
| San Diego, California | 102 |
| Houston, Texas | 90 |
| Los Angeles, California | 86 |
| Tampa, Florida | 79 |
| Orlando, Florida | 74 |
| Phoenix, Arizona | 72 |
| Brooklyn, New York | 72 |
1 in 5 detailers has no real website — and AI builders aren't the answer
19% of detailers (5,041 of them) have no real website at all — just a social page, or nothing. Meanwhile, despite the hype, only 11 of all 26,876 detailers run a pure-play AI-builder site. The DIY incumbents still own this market, and most detailers who "have a website" have one that doesn't rank or convert.
Your work is probably great. Your visibility is the problem.
The data is clear: with everyone at 5 stars, the detailers who win aren't the best — they're the most findable. The good news is that the review gap and the "no real website" problem are both fixable. See exactly where you stand in 60 seconds.
How we built this
Figures are computed from our verified dataset of 26,876 U.S. car detailers across 52 states — the same data behind TopDetailers.com's rankings. Reviews and ratings are from public Google Business Profiles; the "review gap" compares each city's top detailer to its median (cities with 8+ detailers). Market saturation counts other detailers within a 15-mile radius using business coordinates. Web presence is classified from each business's listed website. Published 2026.
